GUEST BLOG: What does creativity mean to you?

This month we invited members of the Element Creative Community to take over the blog page and share their thoughts on a creative subject or experience that matters to them.

Have a read of Charles’ insightful and inspiring reflection on his experiences with Element and elswhere, as he ponders the question:

What does creativity mean to you?

I love creativity.

Creativity is essential to me as it allows a visual medium to represent untrained thoughts and emotions. Whenever I am feeling low or depressed, engaging with creative art always proves to be an incredibly therapeutic remedy.

Whether I engage with music from some of my favourite artists like Kaytranada, or House sets I always find a place of serenity within.

Recently, I had the opportunity to watch a live show titled ‘Acid’s Reign’ in waterloo sponsored by the Element team. As for the show, it was nothing short of electrifying! The energy in the room was palpable from the moment the first queen sashayed onto the stage, commanding the audience’s attention with her nature-inspired gown and charisma. It displayed creativity and talent, bringing their unique flair and personality to the show.

This was more than just a show; it was also a clever campaign for climate action in the queer community as it reconciled the concept with detachment from anti-LGBTQ+ propaganda.

Overall, Acid Reign is a fun, empowering piece delivered by gifted performers.

Visual art has always been of great interest to me. I frequently visit museums such as the Musee d’Orsay in Paris and I plan on visiting the Louvre next. I love staring at the paintings and pondering what the artists must’ve thought of before choosing to capture such a devastatingly beautiful piece.

My favourite medium to express art is writing, I love writing short stories and think pieces whenever I can. As a Youth Champion with Element, I held creative writing workshops and supported a group of young people with their written work.

Overall, I love being a creative individual. It allows me to make a concrete, visual signature on a piece of hardware and engaging with products that have originated from creativity prove to have a therapeutic effect on me and I benefit greatly from them.
